Block automatic OS update pop-up windows

This article assumes you do not want to update the OS of your device. To get the latest version of the operating system, do not update it on your own. Instead, contact Perfecto Support.

The notification you received is something Perfecto has no control over on a cellular network when Wi-Fi is not being used. This is a pushed update from the carrier to your SIM inside the actual phone. Perfecto can only control what goes over its own Wi-Fi networks. Android devices that contain SIM cards will overwrite any OS block settings set on the Wi-Fi level.

Following are possible reasons for pop-up windows not being blocked on a device with cellular network enabled:

  • Wi-Fi was turned off in settings.
  • Adaptive Wi-Fi (Smart Network Switch on Android and Wi-Fi Assist on Apple devices) is turned on and the cellular network connection is temporarily greater than the Wi-Fi.  In such situations, a device may not switch back to Wi-Fi.
  • The device did not have any traffic traversing the network for 8 hours or more.  In this situation, the device was forcibly disconnected from the network by the Cisco Wireless controller as a stale connection. This is a Cisco limitation because it is the maximum time permitted by Cisco.

If your tests fail repeatedly because of the OS update pop-up window pending, then Perfecto may be able to block it.

The block of the automatic pop-up windows is based on blocking the IPs of the update servers of the vendors. If the vendors do not have a separate IP, just for updates, Perfecto cannot block them.

Perfecto can block automatic update pop-up windows for the following operating systems:

  1. iOS
  2. Samsung
  3. LG

If you get a pop-up window, contact Perfecto Support.

Important: Perfecto does not block the update pop-ups for the following operating systems:
  1. Sony
  2. Huawei
  3. Motorola

If you get a pop-up window, log in to the device and clear the window. Alternatively, by using automation, you can observe the scenario as an exception and handle it accordingly.

If a pop-up window still appears, contact Perfecto Support.
