Conduct file operations

On an open device, you can copy, download, delete, and upload files. You can also search files in a repository.

Click a task to view its steps.

  1. In the widgets pane, click the Device button .

  2. On the Device tab, click File operations.

You can copy a file from a source to a destination and also add the copy action to the device and test.

Restriction: You cannot copy a file from an SD card to a device or vice versa.
  1. In the File operations widget, from the list at the top, select the option Copy file among repository/device/SD card.
  2. In the SELECT SOURCE FILE pane, select Repository, Device, or SD card, depending on the source location.

  3. Browse to the file you want to copy.

    Tip: You can search for a file in the repository. In the search box, enter a string of characters. The search results will be refined as you type.
  4. Click NEXT.
  5. In the SELECT DESTINATION pane on the right, select Repository, Device, or SD card, depending on the destination location.
  6. Browse to the destination location where you want to paste a copy of the file.

  7. Next to the COPY FILE button, select one or both checkboxes next to your required option:

    • Execute the selected action on the device.

    • Add the selected action to the test.

  8. Click COPY FILE.

    When you select the option to add the selected action to the test, the commands Get file or Put file are added to the test.

    In the widget pane, a progress bar indicates the status of the operation. When the operation is complete, a success message is displayed and the file appears in the destination.

When a file is no longer required, you can delete the file from the device or SD card. You can execute the delete action on the device and also add it to the test.

Important: You cannot delete source files or files required for running an application on a device.

  1. In the File operations widget, from the list at the top, select the option Delete file from device/SD card.

  2. In the select a file to delete pane, select the file source: Device or SD card.

  3. Browse to the file location and select it.

  4. Next to the DELETE button, select one or both checkboxes next to your required option:

    • Execute the selected action on the device.

    • Add the selected action to the test.

  5. Click DELETE.

    • In the Delete file dialog box, click YES to confirm the delete action.

    When you select an option to add the selected action to the test, the Delete file command gets added to the test.

You can upload a file from your computer to a device or SD card. After the upload, the file appears in the destination location or folder.

  1. In the File operations widget, from the list at the top, select the option Upload file from computer to device/SD card.
  2. Browse to the destination where you want to upload the file.

  3. Click UPLOAD.

  4. Browse to the file you want to upload.

  5. Select the file and click Open.

You can download any file from a device or SD card. The file downloads to your browser.

  1. In the File operations widget, from the list at the top, select the option to Download from Device/SD Card.
  2. In the select a file to download pane, select the source as Device or SD card.
  3. Browse to the file you want to download and select it.

  4. Click DOWNLOAD.

While conducting file operations, after you select the source or destination of a file, you might want to refresh the view to see the currently available files and folders.

  • To refresh the Repository, Device, or SD card pane, in the lower part of the pane, click .
