Manage apps

Before you can test a new application on a device, you must open the device and install the new application.

To install an application

1. In the widgets pane, click the Applications button .
2. On the Applications tab, click Install new app.
3. In the Install new app form, in the SELECT APP pane, select the location of your app file: Repository (default) or Computer.

   Depending on your selection, do one of the following:

   • Repository: Search for and select the repository file you want to use.

     You can search by tag name, if applicable. If a file is associated with tags, a tag symbol appears below the file name, along with the number of tags associated with the file. To view the tag names, move the pointer over the tag icon .

   • Computer:
     1. Select Upload a file.
     2. Browse to the file you want to use.

     3. Select the file and click Open.

        The file loads.

4. Click NEXT.
5. In the CONFIGURE APP pane, select any of the following options:

   • Sensor instrumentation 

     Select this option if your app needs to interact with different input sensors. On iOS, this option also includes resigning the application.

   • WebView instrumentation 

     Select this option if your application displays parts of the UI in WebView objects. On iOS, this option also includes resigning the application.

   • (iOS only) Resign an application

     Select this option if your application must be signed with a Developer Certificate that includes provisioning for the cloud device under test. This option replaces the app's signature and re-signs it with a Perfecto code signing certificate that has the cloud device provisioned.

     If you select any of the other two options, this option becomes unavailable.

   • Reset app data

     Select this option to remove or clear the application data on reinstall. By default, the application data gets cleaned on the app reinstall. To retain existing application data, turn off this toggle.

6. (Optional) Select the Launch after installing checkbox.

7. Click INSTALL APP. 

   Scriptless Mobile installs the application.

You can run, stop, or delete an application on an open device or by adding the related command to your test.

To run, stop, or delete an app

1. In the widgets pane, click the Applications button .

2. On the Applications tab, move the pointer over the required application.

3. Select the required checkbox next to these options:

   • Execute the selected action on the device

   • Add the selected action to the test

4. To specify the action, click one of the following icons: 

   	Start running the application on the device
   	Stop running the application on the device
   	Delete the application from the device

If the open device has many applications installed, the one app you are looking for might be hard to find. You have these options:

• Use the Hide default apps toggle. This option is turned on by default so that all system applications are hidden. If the app you are looking for is defined as a default app, you need to turn this option off.

  

• Use the Search field. The search results update as you type.

  

To test an app, you can copy the bundle ID (for iOS) or app package (for Android) from an open device and paste the ID or package as a capability directly into your automation test.

To copy the bundle ID or app package

1. In the widgets pane, click the Applications button .
2. On the Applications tab, move the pointer over the required application.

3. Click the Copy bundle ID/app package button .

   The bundle ID or app package is copied to your clipboard.
